FlowR8 Interactive Workshop

SIMUL8 offers an interactive workshop for healthcare professionals to collaborate to improve hospital flow

FlowR8 is a dynamic, interactive, highly participative workshop, built around a sophisticated simulation model. The workshop challenges participants to play through a “day in the life” of the emergency care pathway in a hospital. Participants take the role of departments and are responsible for delivery of their local care objectives, for example, Emergency Departments need to ensure that patients wait no longer than 4 hours and Inpatient Wards that beds are available for medical and surgical admissions. The goal is to get departments to work collaboratively to improve performance of the service as a whole.

Workshop dates

  • Thursday 11th February

Our work with The Cumberland Initiative

Recently, SIMUL8 worked with The Cumberland Initiative at the launch of the new Cumberland Institute - a specialist facility designed to help address the many challenges of improving care services, through simulation modeling, serious gaming and other Operational Research methods.

The workshop has multiple runs, with skilled facilitation at the end of each run to draw out the key learning and encourage participants to develop their own solutions. The first run takes 35 minutes after which performance results are shared and discussed. The results are a mix of familiar flow and performance measures and targets, along with some less familiar measures and analysis of delay. The objective is to devise and implement improvement strategies and reflect on the impact of subsequent simulation runs.

Participants will leave the session with a deeper understanding of how their own role can contribute to improved flow across the system.
